Emily Woolcott is an Investment Officer based in London. She is an Australian qualified lawyer who has experience in a diverse range of commercial litigation matters including cases involving defamation, fraud, negligence, consumer protection and contractual disputes.
Emily is proud to have joined the Woodsford team in July 2022 and is focused on continuing to fulfil Woodsford’s commitment to ESG matters and delivering access to justice. In her role, Emily has a particular focus on securities litigation which involves working with international institutional investors to hold large, listed businesses to account. Woodsford are pioneers in using law, technology and finance to collectively engage stakeholders. Emily’s portfolio of cases showcases Woodsford’s innovative thinking to collect together large groups of stakeholders. Emily is working with these stakeholders, in opt-out classes (using Dutch Stichtings where cases are brought in the Netherlands) and in opt-in classes (sometimes utilising SPV vehicles).
Before joining Woodsford, Emily was an Associate at HWL Ebsworth, a leading Australian law firm. She has experience litigating in the Magistrate, District and Supreme Courts of Queensland as well as the Federal Court of Australia.
While in private practice, Emily worked on large scale litigation in the Supreme Court of Queensland. Examples of Emily’s experience include her acting for a model litigant in a contractual dispute against one of the world’s largest medical manufacturers and assisting a statutory appointed non-for-profit organisation in commercial contract termination disputes. She has represented a variety of clients including government departments, not-for-profit organisations, corporate entities and individuals. Prior to her role at HWL Ebsworth, Emily was a solicitor at a boutique litigation firm with a focus on working with property investors and SMEs. Here, Emily gained a strong foundation in obtaining practical commercial outcomes both in transactional and litigious work.
Emily has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Queensland University of Technology. Emily was admitted in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2018 and the High Court of Australia in 2019.
