Jordan Howells is a barrister of England and Wales whose work has involved representing companies, individuals and organisations in respect of ESG failures in investigations, negotiations and settlements arising from the jurisdictions of the Multilateral Development Banks and was often carried out in tandem with ongoing inquiries and obligations arising from prosecutorial bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Department of Justice and the Serious Fraud Office. In addition to work in litigious settings, he has managed projects undertaking advisory work reviewing the substance and adequacy of integrity compliance programmes, policies and strategies for business ethics of multinational, multi-billion dollar companies.

Jordan has advised and acted for, or against, numerous international organisations on the one hand, and individuals on the other, in negotiations, settlements, and in trials before international arbitral tribunals around the world, including the United Nations, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, NATO, African Development Bank and the Commonwealth Secretariat. His public law work has included reviewing and drafting legally sustainable, rules, regulations and laws, as well as advising on the lawfulness of provisions prior to their application.

Jordan ‘cut his teeth’ practising crime and extradition in London. Following pupillage, he assisted the Serious Fraud Office as disclosure counsel, and went on to spend nine months in the Turks and Caicos Islands, BWI, on behalf of HM Foreign and Commonwealth Office, gathering and sorting evidence in the investigation into allegations of fraud, corruption and misfeasance by the Premier, members of the legislature and others. His role also included assisting the Attorney General of that jurisdiction with legislative drafting.

In addition to his legal practice, Jordan’s deep interest and understanding of ESG matters was further honed while training with Channel 4 as an investigative journalist, after which he worked on investigations and making programmes for both Channel 4 and BBC about ESG subjects which sought to hold to account companies and individuals in diverse areas including fraud and corruption, modern slavery, abuses of the planning system, and illicit dealing in antiquities. While studying for the Bar, Jordan worked at American Express Private Bank as part of a small team charged with implementing new Financial Services Authority regulations, including MiFID and TCF.

Having gained an introduction to litigation funding at another funder, Jordan now brings all of this experience together in furtherance of Woodsford’s mission to achieve redress for ESG failures.

Jordan read for a BA (Hons) degree in Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics and Political Science and he took an MPhil in Criminology from the University of Cambridge. He obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law from City University, London and completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in London.
