Career landmarks include:

  • 1965 – LLB First Class at University College London
  • 1973 – PhD also at UCL
  • 1977 – called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn (Hardwicke Scholar)
  • 1977 – joined Clifford Chance
  • 1978 – admitted as a Solicitor
  • 1980 – partner at Clifford Chance (to retirement in 2007)
  • 1994 – Solicitor Advocate Civil – in the first batch to qualify by exam rather than exemption (and “not a fun way to mark your 50th year”)
  • 2000–2007 – head of Insurance and Reinsurance litigation at Clifford Chance
  • 1998 – co-authored ‘The Law of Reinsurance’.  (The fourth revised edition was published by Sweet & Maxwell in October 2015)
  • 2007-present – consultant at Clifford Chance
  • Formerly – non executive director of Arthur J Gallagher (UK) Ltd, insurance brokers, and Montpelier Underwriting Agencies Limited, Lloyd’s managing agents of syndicate 5151
