- 1973 – PhD also at UCL
- 1977 – called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn (Hardwicke Scholar)
- 1977 – joined Clifford Chance
- 1978 – admitted as a Solicitor
- 1980 – partner at Clifford Chance (to retirement in 2007)
- 1994 – Solicitor Advocate Civil – in the first batch to qualify by exam rather than exemption (and “not a fun way to mark your 50th year”)
- 2000–2007 – head of Insurance and Reinsurance litigation at Clifford Chance
- 1998 – co-authored ‘The Law of Reinsurance’. (The fourth revised edition was published by Sweet & Maxwell in October 2015)
