A Discussion on Class Action Readiness: Preparing for Collective Legal Challenges in the UK

On Tuesday 11 November 2025, Woodsford CEO Steven Friel took part in FTI Consulting’s evening session in London focused on class action readiness and the challenges associated with collective legal claims in the UK. The panel also featured FTI Consulting’s Craig Earnshaw and Rob Mindel, Freshfields’ Jess Steele, and BT Group’s Emily Wesley.

The session explored how the UK collective action landscape has developed ten years after the Consumer Rights Act, with a growing rise in large, US-style opt-out class actions. The discussion addressed how organisations can anticipate and prepare for group litigation, with contributions covering legal, technology and communications considerations.

Speakers reviewed how collective actions are emerging in areas such as competition, privacy and ESG, and discussed what in-house teams can do to improve preparedness. The panel also considered practical steps for managing litigation risk, internal alignment, and effective communication strategies when facing mass claims.

Woodsford is pleased to contribute its insights to this timely debate and remains committed to helping clients navigate collective redress in the global commercial disputes landscape.
