In what was surely the most well attended litigation funding event of the year, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC yesterday delivered the inaugural Woodsford Litigation Funding Lecture at the University of Westminster Law School.
The audience of lawyers, policymakers, academics and students were welcomed to the event by Woodsford’s chairman, Yves Bonavero, who has worked with Baroness Kennedy on the foundation of the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights at Oxford University.
In her impassioned lecture, Baroness Kennedy identified the theme of access to justice as common to both her work as a human rights advocate, and the commercial enterprise of third party litigation funding. She stated her hope that litigation funding could be further used for public interest cases, citing Woodsford’s support of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre in Australia as a good example of what is possible.
The lecture was followed by an informal drinks reception.
