Alex Lempiner is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Woodsford US.  Alex is regarded as a thought leader on the environmental, social and governance issues facing the US legal and capital markets.  With an unwavering commitment to these values, Alex oversees corporate and legal matters affecting Woodsford in the United States.

Alex directly handles the transactional work for Woodsford’s US business, including the development of all litigation funding and patent acquisition documentation and the drafting and negotiation of all individual contracts for Woodsford’s US investments.  In addition, Alex manages Woodsford’s human resources and employment matters in the United States and co-manages Woodsford’s US business development efforts.

Leveraging more than 25 years of legal and industry experience, Alex is a legal steward and a strategic partner who is passionate about making a meaningful impact to promote sustainability and ethical investing by offering litigation funding to hold those who violate ESG standards accountable.

Alex joined Woodsford from Rembrandt IP Management, LLC, a Philadelphia-based investment firm, where he served as Corporate Counsel and Secretary with responsibility for all corporate governance and legal matters affecting the litigation funding business.  With ESG principles in mind, Alex led the development of Rembrandt’s funding operations as he drafted the transaction documents, handled the negotiations with claimants and their counsel, coordinated diligence and participated in the final investment decisions.

Prior to his move to Rembrandt, Alex served as Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Coventry First, LLC, a leader in the highly state-regulated life settlement market.  Alex joined Coventry as its first in-house counsel and during his 12-year tenure, he played a leading role in the Company’s growth and success, working directly with the founders to develop and implement company-wide compliance procedures, while counselling on risk analysis and operational matters.  As Coventry’s Chief Compliance Officer, Alex drafted and negotiated a diverse set of commercial agreements while managing company litigation and overseeing all regulatory matters.

Alex began his legal career with the international law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP, in the Global Corporate Finance Group of their New York office. During his 6 years at Milbank, Alex represented administrative agents, lenders and borrowers in a wide range of syndicated financings and capital markets transactions.

Alex obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law from The Pennsylvania State University where he was admitted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in New York and Pennsylvania.
