Hugh Tait is an Australian-qualified lawyer who has worked on a diverse range of complex, large-scale litigation and arbitration matters in both Australia and England, with a particular focus on ESG-related class/collective claims.

Before joining Woodsford, Hugh was employed at one of the world’s leading dispute resolution firms, Hausfeld, and before coming to England, was employed at one of Australia’s leading law firms, HWL Ebsworth. He has experience litigating in the Supreme Courts of Queensland and New South Wales, the Federal Court of Australia, the High Court of England (both Chancery and Commercial Divisions) and the Competition Appeal Tribunal.

While in private practice, he had extensive experience acting for claimants pursuing their claims with the support of litigation funding, including a claimant group in the first class/collective action filed in Queensland and a start-up technology company pursuing a circa £1 billion IP claim in England. 

Since joining Woodsford, Hugh has overseen a range of high-profile ESG matters including securities claims in England, Australia and Japan and competition/antitrust claims in England and Australia.

Hugh has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Business – Major in Finance (Distinction) from Queensland University of Technology and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and High Court of Australia in 2015.
